Mediators in biobleaching of pulps by laccases
نویسندگان
چکیده
Laccases oxidize variety of aromatic and non aromatic compounds by using oxygen as the electron acceptor and producing water as by-product. Generally laccases need mediators for catalyzing the removal of lignin from pulp. The potential of laccase mediator system (LMS) to degrade lignin polymer has been demonstrated by many researchers, but still the high cost and possible toxicity of artificial mediators hamper their application at an industrial level of biobleaching of pulps. Current review presents the critical information of how mediators (synthetic or natural) are helpful for bio-bleaching of different pulps. _____________________________________________________________________________________________

Kraft pulp biobleaching and mediated oxidation of a nonphenolic substrate by laccase from Streptomyces cyaneus CECT 3335.
A new laccase (EC 1.10.3.2) produced by Streptomyces cyaneus CECT 3335 in liquid media containing soya flour (20 g per liter) was purified to homogeneity. The physicochemical, catalytic, and spectral characteristics of this enzyme, as well as its suitability for biobleaching of eucalyptus kraft pulps, were assessed. The purified laccase had a molecular mass of 75 kDa and an isoelectric point of...
متن کاملEvaluation of a New Laccase Produced by Streptomyces Ipomoea on Biobleaching and Ageing of Kraft Pulps
The aim of this work is to prove the suitability of a new alkaline and halotolerant bacterial laccase (SilA) produced by Streptomyces ipomoea CECT 3341 to enhance the conventional chemical bleaching process of an industrial eucalyptus kraft pulp. The laccase used for this study was a recombinant laccase obtained from cultures of E. coli BL21 (DE3) grown in LB liquid medium. The biobleaching exp...
متن کاملUnderstanding pulp delignification by laccase-mediator systems through isolation and characterization of lignin-carbohydrate complexes.
The effects and mechanism of pulp delignification by laccases in the presence of redox mediators have been investigated on unbleached eucalyptus kraft pulp treated with laccases from Pycnoporus cinnabarinus (PcL) and Myceliophthora thermophila (MtL) and 1-hydroxybenzotriazole (HBT) and methyl syringate (MeS) as mediators, respectively. Determination of the corrected κ number in eucalyptus pulps...
متن کاملBiobleaching of Flax by Degradation of Lignin with Laccase
Research on lignin biodegradation has become of great interest, due to the fact that lignin is one of the most abundant renewable materials, next to cellulose. Lignin is also the substance that gives color to raw flax fibers. In order to bleach the flax and to keep its tenacity high enough for textile applications, it is necessary to remove the lignin and partially to preserve the pectin. Ligni...

Here, we described the production of a cellulase-free alkaline xylanase from Bacillus pumilus MTCC 5015 by submerged fermentation and its application in biobleaching. Various process parameters affecting xylanase production by B. pumilus were optimized by adopting a Plackett-Burman design (PBD) as well as Response surface methodology (RSM). These statistical methods aid in improving the enzyme ...
